Director of Golf

Derek Lane, PGA

Greetings,
We are excited to announce plans for the implementation of two sets of forward golf tees. The tees are designed with a principle of golf course scaling, playing the course from a yardage appropriate for your driving distance so you are able to play the holes with the same clubs as other players based on driving distance. The tee monuments will be placed on a flat spot in the middle of the fairway. Golfers will tee off to the side or slightly behind the monument. The courses are rated by the WSCGA and SCGA and scores will be posted in the same fashion as from the existing tees.

Forward tee one will be 3204 yards, appropriate for a player who drives the ball approximately 100 yards in the air. The WSCGA rating is 60.6 with a slope of 97. The SCGA rating is 57.3 and slope 93. Forward tee two is 3996 yards, for a player who drives the ball about 140 yards in the air. The WSCGA rating is 64.5, slope 110, and the SCGA rating is 61.1, slope 102.

The tees will be a great option for families, juniors and beginning players, reducing the frustration and amount of time it takes to play from a teeing area that requires 3-5 shots just to get in range of the green. They can also be used as a “par 3” or “executive-style” course for experienced players, or as a practice option for sharpening your iron play and short game. The tees monuments are expected to be in place by April 1.

I would like to thank Scott Johnson, our PGA Director of Instruction for the countless hours and labor that he put into this project. RSFGC will benefit immensely from this addition and we are proud to feature it on such a world class course.

Happy New Year!

Cheers,
Derek
